What would you like to see at the MFI? In 2008, the University of Chicago proposed the creation of the Milton Friedman Institute, since renamed to the Milton Friedman Institute for Research in Economics (MFI). The proposed site for the MFI is the current location of the Chicago Theological Seminary. Despite concern about the MFI's namesake and pleas for public dialog about the MFI from university affiliates, community members and even a U.S. Senator, this process has been decided with little public input. In the spirit of openness, we are requesting proposals that answer the question: What would you like to see at the MFI? Through these proposals, the University of Chicago chapter of Students for a Democratic Society hopes to further public dialogue about the MFI as well as organizational transparency, economics, community involvement and the issues that most concern you -- all the while providing an opportunity for the greater community to envision what our university looks like. Because our goal is promoting discussion about the MFI rather than heralding the best proposal, submissions will be shared with the public through this website, public events and printed materials.
